Landslides caused by layers of lava building up on unstable layers of sand is analogous to avalanches caused by stable layers of snow accumulating on unstable layers of snow.

I am parked in my Jeep with my dog at the crater of Kilauea at 9pm on June 27, 2025. I have lived near the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park for over 20 years alone offgrid in Upper Puna Rainforest. This place has been wild since Christmas. I am an ametuer vidographer with a channel showing the active lava fountains up close with my service dog.

Too bad History Channel (and the rest) on cable TV have devolved into slop, but it is absolutely epic that their past (useful) content is archived on YouTube! *_TRUST !!_*

This documentary on the Hawaiian Islands is very fascinating. The last part about the landslide is most disconcerting. Like a landslide that might occur with La Palma in the Atlantic.
