What I got from this video on how to prune pomegranate trees: 1. Always use protection 2. Clean out the bottom 3. Three Ds plus the C 4. Just the tips 5. Be wary of upward growth 6. Get aggressive with the long trunk 7. The bush should be shrubby, maybe even have two bushes 8. Don't wait to trim the bush when it's no longer dormant 9. If its got a bit of a curve, that's normal. It might not be that big a deal 10. Creatures WILL notice your "pomegranates". The less ways you can give it to access it, the better 11. Fertilize the back as well Thanks Kev 🤭❤

Im keeping a "small trees" orchard. Over 3 years of pruning I've shaped my pom into a 4 ft tree, with one central leader, and a roundish/llolipop shape. And yes, the branches are spiky. It gives me about 7-10 big and tasty poms, its more than enough for me.😊

We have a lot of people from the Middle East where I live. I actually worked up the nerve to ask one how to choose a pomegranate at the store. He said you want it to be firm and not feel like water inside. No bruises as that's caused rot in the arils.

Thanks Eric. I've not seen a good pomegranate pruning guide like this one until now. My poms are quite tall. I need to prune them harder next winter, even though I pruned them pretty aggressively this year. I grow Salivatsky and Georgian beauty here in Alabama. I'm probably going to add two Afghan varieties this spring. Many thanks, sir.
