r/AITA I Forced an Adult to Poo His Pants
Bathroom Etiquette vs. Medical Emergency and Parental Favoritism Conflicts
Learn how one listener navigated a high-stakes bathroom standoff, understand the fallout of weaponizing a parent's perceived favoritism as a birthday gift, and weigh the consequences of playful pranks gone wrong.
Short Summary
- OP denied immediate use of a portable bathroom to a man claiming a Crohn's emergency, prioritizing their own immediate need, leading to the man soiling himself.
- A 17-year-old son gave his father a detailed list of sacrificed extracurriculars as his 50th birthday present, highlighting years of perceived parental neglect favoring stepsiblings.
- Contextual advice explores accountability when cultural events (like birthdays) are weaponized or when playful actions cross professional/trust boundaries.
This summary outlines three distinct ethical dilemmas presented by listeners: managing urgent bodily functions when resources are limited, confronting years of parental neglect through symbolic action, and determining if a prank targeting a dietary restriction is harmless fun or mean-spirited behavior.

Sounds like this job site needs to get more than one dang porta-potty.
For the first story I actually blame the employer. I've worked on a few sites with portta pottys and (at least here in Canada) there are rules about how many bathrooms you have to have and how far away they are from workers. I don't care if it's a tiny site with like 5 guys, there should still be a minimum of 2 bathrooms.
You wanna see a real poop emergency- make someone’s latte with whole milk when they asked for a non-dairy alternative. AH is whoever decided to only provide one toilet btw.
Story 4: that niece is 100% going to be moving in with OP when she gets the chance. What OP did for her will never be forgotten.
Story 4: Favouritism, Spoiling the Brother, being a hypocrite, and LYING too? This is textbook favouritism. If they have to lie and accuse YOU of spoiling HER, they aren't good parents.
I have Crohn’s Disease and have a similar medical card to that man. Op is NTA. It’s fine to ask to jump the line, but we can’t demand it.
Story 1: the only idiot here is the company for only ordering one Porta potty. This is a construction site filled with grown men. You need at least three.
Someone was going to poop themselves in the first story
The OP of Story 4 claims that the rest of the family "spoils" the niece, but, honestly, it sounds more like the rest of the family just aren't the toxic disasters the parents are and actually show the niece they love her. I'm still so baffled that this poor girl basically communicated to her mother that she cared enough about the woman (who clearly does NOT deserve it) to want to spend special one on one time with her...and was _punished_ for it??
Story 2 and 4 : I can already tell both sets of parents are going to be surprised seeing a wedding and kids through another person's phone 😂
