I sincerely feel sorry for Maekar. He seems like a rather simple and crude, but not bad man, who spends all his energy on children who get drunk, go crazy, or run away. He worries about them and obviously understands Aerion's nature, but he's not ready to admit to himself that his son is a bad person.
“For you, a copper” is essentially saying “For you, a penny” He wasn’t actually charging him for the work
Baelor didn't even bring armor to the tourney. He is wearing his son's armor.
Maekar is not really corrupt at all.... he loves his family and obviously he has to stand by his sons.
16:33 I know you guys want longer episodes, but you have to think of the size scale of the story. The 1st novella (which is what this first season is based off of) is only like a little more than 100 pages and the entire story takes place over the span of like 3-4 days. In GOT, and HOTD, actual years are passing in the story so they’re able to draw the story out longer. Edit: TBH a part of me wishes they made the story into a movie series and turn it into like A Knight’s Tale.
Remember when losing his first joust meant Dunk would lose his livelihood?? Ahh those were the good old days...
That fact Prince Baelor stood up for Dunk when no one else would, especially against his own family, is more than enough for me to actually want to pledge loyalty to him. Because that is a man I would be proud to one day call king. I mean, I already loved him throughout this episode like how he had his nephew Egg go and apologize to Dunk for deceiving him, and also trying to help Dunk as much as he could. But seeing him ride in with the Game of Thrones theme song playing in the background made me actually stand and applaud.
daeron isn’t a dick, he’s just a troubled man who drinks to drown his sorrows
Just love the GOT music when Baelor rode in and announced he would fight with Dunc. Great moment. Lyonel, Raymun and Baelor are amazing. Shoutout to Steely Pate too. Looking forward to the next episode!
"we could do with a little crazy on our side" I guess we already have that covered with 1) Lyonel, 2) Robin Rhysling, who thinks he is an avatar of the warrior and 3) Humfrey Hardyng, who fights a trial by combat with a broken leg
