CREEPY: How GriefTech Is Being Used To Talk To Dead People | The Evolution Of AI
The Disturbing Frontier of AI: Resurrecting the Dead and the Erosion of Grief
Discover the emerging market of "Grief Tech," where companies use AI to simulate deceased loved ones, and understand the severe psychological and ethical consequences of halting the natural grieving process.
Short Summary
- Confront the trend of using generative AI to create digital avatars of deceased individuals, starting with formal technology patents.
- Examine disturbing case studies where AI simulations were used in court statements and passive interviews, highlighting the technology’s current application.
- Understand the argument that this bypasses necessary stages of grief, ultimately desecrating the memory of the deceased by reducing them to shallow "content."
- Learn the speaker’s call for immediate regulatory guardrails before this technology normalizes a dangerous form of denial.
This episode moves beyond general artificial intelligence concerns to focus on one of its most unsettling applications: digitally resurrecting loved ones. The discussion traces the concept from early corporate patents to recent high-profile examples involving murder victims and deceased children. The core value lies in analyzing why experts argue this technology serves only to trap the grieving in denial and diminish the richness of the person being simulated.

Impersonating the dead with AI is an abomination.
Creepy is an understatement, This is about to be a mental health pandemic. This is Black Mirror.
Reanimating the dead to push narratives is beyond creepy.
This society becomes sicker every day.
This is idolatry and ghoulish. These people need help. It’s basically grave robbing you’re exploiting the dead
This will lead to psychosis
This is creepy and unnatural. I lost my mom last year and, while I'd love to hear her voice again, I would not do this. She would absolutely hate this. Grief is part of life. It believe it needs to be felt in order to honor those we lost .. because it means we loved them.
Lord Jesus 🙏 We need you
Important to understand the AI version will not only obviously never reflect the actual views of the person, but when parents and politics are involved, it's clearly dystopian
It's a form of Necromancy. Necromancy is an abomination. No way would I want my dead relatives transformed into AI.
