Ellis v. Cardi B Civil Assault Trial - Opening Statements, Witnesses, Cardi B testimony pt. 1
Cardi B Civil Trial: Security Guard Assault Claims, Discovery Failures, and Hostile Witness Performance
Analyze how extensive discovery conflicts and celebrity testimony shape the narrative in a high-profile civil assault trial. Learn why clear evidence presentation is vital when opposing counsel shifts stories under cross-examination.
Short Summary
- Plaintiff Imani Ellis claimed Cardi B assaulted her, spitting, screaming, and scratching her face following an alleged unwarranted filming attempt.
- Defense strategy heavily focused on impeaching Ellis using her initial incident report, which noted a scratch on her nose, contradicting her later testimony about a cheek scar.
- The trial provided a prime example of civil procedure mechanics, including confusing arguments over witness disclosure and the formal calling of the defendant as a hostile witness.
- Cardi B's testimony was praised for its linear, direct explanation, contrasting sharply with the defense’s portrayal of Ellis as inconsistent.
This recap covers the opening statements, inconsistent plaintiff testimony, and expert medical testimony presented during the Ellis v. Cardi B civil case. Review attorney performance, the judge's firm control over procedure, and the unique dynamic when a celebrity defendant takes the stand.

Replay crew!! This trial is such a palette cleanser!
the plaintiff's attorney saying "why would I go and find the receptionist who may have witnessed the very altercation we're here about" is giving me Brian Albert saying "I was sleeping, I didn't hear or see the police come" and "Should I have gone out in my underwear and run the yellow tape"?
So, the lawyer who was trying to make Cardi B's Security Guard a witness even though he was on a different floor during the time of the incident... wants to block the testimony of the two witnesses who were on the floor who separated the plaintiff and defendant because he says they weren't involved in the incident?!?
The Jury Out lawyering the lawyers was hilarious.
Bahaha! Closed captioning was struggling! "Dr. Finky, Dr. Fininky, Dr. Binky and Dr. Kinky." 😂😂😂
In my last job, I was working for a big deal finance company & we had celebrity clients. If security said or did any more than a polite “love what you do” they would get a complaint logged. If they walked up to any of our clients without reason another complaint. The office building not only had a finance business, there was a plastic surgeon, OBGYN & the Australian Border Control. If security got 2 complaints logged, they’re fired.
All I kept thinking watching the plaintiff’s testimony was “receipts, timeline, evidence!… She’s got none of it.”
Well, this judge goes directly on to my top 5 list of judges! He's great!
Motion to use this judge's "NOPE" for the soundboard. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me, watching her go home and delete everything from her cart: 😭😭💀💀"
