The scene that always hit me the hardest is when the four hobbits are sitting in the Green Dragon after returning to the Shire. That slow realization that even though they're back, and the Shire hasn't changed and is the same as when they left, they're changed instead. You go back thinking things will go back to normal, only to realize they can't because YOU have changed

Nobody is at fault for not destroying the ring. It was impossible, once you entered Mount Doom it's power of influence was absolute.

Andy Serkis not getting an Oscar for Gollum is one of the biggest snubs in history. His performance is iconic!

I feel like Eowyn is unfairly disliked, regarding her attitude toward Aragorn. When she asked about Arwen, she was told she was sailing away with her family (i.e. out of the picture), then she started dropping big hints about her feelings to Aragorn, and let's face it, sometimes men don't always see those hints for what they are. When he eventually shut her down after she finally more forwardly came out with her feelings, she didn't pursue him any further. It's not like she was trying to be a homewrecker, getting between him and Arwen. She had a crush (on a literal king, brooding but honorable, a proven leader, faithful and loyal - pretty much the full package), and she shot her shot. He wasn't into her and she moved on, killed a dragon-like beast and a witch king, and then looked for love elsewhere. She was always a favorite of mine in the books.

A bit of symbolism: when Frodo and Gollum fall, the Ring does not immediately drop into the lava. It clings, refusing to let go. Only when Frodo reaches for Sam’s hand does the Ring finally fall. That moment is when Frodo truly "lets go" of the Ring.

RIP Bernard Hill What a sight it is seeing King Theoden fighting his own battles one last time.

"Put aside the Ranger. Become who you were born to be." Chills, every time.
