I, too, sing America. I am the darker brother. They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong. Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table When company comes. Nobody’ll dare Say to me, “Eat in the kitchen,” Then. Besides, They’ll see how beautiful I am And be ashamed— I, too, am America. Langston Hughes

What a beautiful human being. Regarding the honor of being chosen to paint the former First Lady’s portrait: it couldn’t have happened to a nicer, more talented artist. Amy’s words honoring Kristin in this interview brought me close to tears. I was deeply moved, thank you for posting.

I was deeply moved by this segment. I learned much about art during this segment. Her choices: personal, deep, thoughtful, resistant, representative. Thank you Ms. Sherald.

My grandmother was born on 4th of July and name is Liberty Bell . Patriotism is literally in my blood. Growing up in a country that doesn’t love me back is very depressing.

I was deeply moved by this segment. I’d recorded it, so I watched it 3 more times. Then saved it so that I can share with my GRANDson, who is also an artist. Her exit statement was so POWERFUL 💜🙏🏾
