Lamine Yamal: The 60 Minutes Interview
Lamine Yamal: The 18-Year-Old Heir to Global Soccer Stardom and His Roots
Discover the mindset and origins of Lamine Yamal, the 18-year-old sensation poised to dominate world soccer, revealed through his unique playstyle, early life struggles, and surprising historical link to Lionel Messi.
Short Summary
- Yamal uses the desire to entertain his neighborhood roots to fuel his "magic" and high-pressure performances on the pitch.
- He explicitly rejects being seen as Messi’s successor, insisting he will follow his own distinct path in soccer history.
- Born in Spain to Moroccan and Equatorial Guinean parents, Yamal overcame neighborhood uncertainty to sign a high-value contract with FC Barcelona.
This discussion explores Yamal's unconventional skill set, why elder players struggle to defend him, and how he balances global scrutiny against the yearning for a normal teenage life.

Crazy to have a 60 minutes interview already
this will be iconic in couple years
I hope he stays grounded and never stops working harder and harder each yr
I’m gonna tell my kids I grew up watching Lamine’s come up, and witnessed his very first games.
Messi baptized that boy
I caught Ronaldinho, Messi, iniesta, Neymar, and now Lamine all at the beginning of their Barca careers.
He speaks VERY well for his age. He allows his personality to shine through without sounding egotistical.
He's still growing. The future is bright for him. ❤
The best thing about this video was Ray Hudson talking about him “there are moments where he throws his own shadow the wrong way … when he cuts, he throws the defender so far out, he needs to pay to get back into the stadium!” Absolutely classic
His goal against France got me interested in football again. I lost real interest after the Man United Munich crash. But,that goal against France...from a 16 year old.I wish him a long ,healthy, happy career. He brings so much joy to all of us.
