For leases, you can certainly focus on monthly payments only, so long as: 1) build everything into the monthly payment (TT&L, add ons..., gap insurance if any) 2) insist on zero drive off (1st ppmt only) 3) know the final disposition fee at lease end 4) understand if any features will be subscription only after initial trial period With this, you can shop multiple dealers for the lowest monthly... Oh, have everything on email before you set foot.
Eating flaming hot cool ranch Doritos before and during negotiations is a good tip. Your breath would stink so bad the salesperson would probably give you a good price just to close the deal to send you to the next victim, the Finance person. Stinky breath will probably work on the Finance person as well, when s/he tries to keep you in his/her office to push those extra maintenance, extended warranty, and windshield/paintless dent/tire repair packages on you. Most dealerships are ready for savvy people armed with those good negotiation tactics, but it is almost impossible to be ready for bad breath and withstand it for a long time.
Biggest thing this time around is we’ll be financing at our credit union and maybe using Costco auto
Edmunds' #1 car-buying tip: purchase a Hyundai or Kia because they're the best.
This is helpful, but when I leased a car last year, I found that dealers overwhelmingly DID NOT want to provide numbers on the phone. They constantly would tell me to just come in. I found that shopping around online was the most helpful thing to do,and I would simply call to find out if the car was there. Hyundai had one of the best solutions. I set up everything online, and then worked from numbers I got there. Things were much easier for me that way.
1) Buy directly from the manufacturer’s website. You’re welcome.

This shed some more light on the process and I thank you for that! I just submitted an order at a dealership for a new purple '26 Jeep Gladiator! Financing will come when the truck arrives at the dealership in 6 to 8 weeks.
