ACE2 Function, Spike Protein Interaction, and Vascular Inflammation Pathways

Understand how the ACE2 enzyme protects your blood vessels from harmful Angiotensin II and how spike protein binding disrupts this critical balance, leading to inflammation and vascular aging.

Short Summary

  • Discover the opposing roles of Angiotensin II (pro-inflammatory) and Angiotensin 1-7 (anti-inflammatory).
  • Learn that ACE2 acts as the crucial moderator, converting damaging Angiotensin II into protective Angiotensin 1-7.
  • Review how SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binds to and depletes ACE2, simultaneously increasing inflammation and decreasing natural anti-inflammatory defenses.
  • This session details the mechanism behind accelerated vascular aging observed, particularly in women post-infection.

This discussion breaks down the complex Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System (RAAS) components on the endothelial cell surface. Dr. Syed explains the protective necessity of ACE2 and details the dual threat posed by spike protein binding: occupying ACE2 and triggering its downregulation, which shifts the body toward heightened inflammation and hypertension.

Thank you, dearest Mobeen, for the two new lectures, in particular this second one, which I found fascinating. I don't recall us all having discussed the implications of Ace2 in this pathway, as explained today. Look after yourself, especially with that cough ❤

I tracked several people with long COVID , the episodes or flare ups correlate perfectly with space weather. The flare ups are immediately mitigated in the shielding room I built. If they exit the shielding room while the space weather is still active, their episodes return.

The way that you explain things already make this channel a 9/10 by itself. The fact that you make really good illustrations make it a 10/10, really brilliant

Dr. Been - you have just sAved my life. ( old microbiologist here) Yes - since my first exposure to spike ( husbands vax - none for me) I had sudden high blood pressure spikes. They settled to normal. But with exposure to friends, family with Covid have these strange things : odd red, prickly nonpainful rash that spread in a line under my arm, extreme thirst, blood sugar up and down, strange large nonpainful bruises on legs, pain up, joints painful, some hair loss, more. Thank you ❤️
