I love that Greg is fighting tears on the last song. It took several listens before I stopped tearing up.
The soda pop song has 3 levels. There is what the kids hear, the risqué double entendre the parents hear, and then the real meaning. It's about demons slurping up human souls.
I've seen quite a few reactions to this and I've noticed that as soon as Rumi hits the high note on stage during the opening song is when every reactor is immediately sold on the whole movie and they lock in 😆
I think the reason this movie did so well was because it actually showed when a creator is allowed to pour their heart and soul into it. As well as making characters and themes relatable in a fun and beautiful way
Rumi’s sudden change of heart at the end was actually due to cuts made for the film’s runtime. According to concept art, after her fight with Celine, Rumi visits her mother’s grave. There, she finds that the grave has been cared for by Celine all these years—from Rumi’s childhood to the present—and realizes that Celine has always loved her. Standing before the grave, Rumi sings, and through the song, she calms the anger she had been holding toward Celine. Only then does she go to face the final battle against the demons. I truly hope this scene will be included if a director’s cut is ever released.
I’m a 38 yo woman who knows nothing about K-pop. But on a whim, I decided to watch it because I needed something not depressing to watch. I CANNOT emphasize enough how surprised I was at how GOOD this movie is! By the time the ending came and they were singing “What it sounds like” I simultaneously was weeping uncontrollably and had my mouth open in astonishment, because I was blown away!!! I mean I’m even listening to the soundtrack 😅 It’s not often I’m surprised by a movie and this one really really surprised me, in a good way. ❤
