Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explain how two key hormones control metabolism and discuss tools to enhance their levels to improve metabolic health. I discuss the pathways through which the brain and body interact to produce thyroid hormone and growth hormone, and how these hormones influence essential processes like tissue growth and repair, body composition, and energy production. I explain how thyroid hormone levels are influenced by key nutrients, such as iodine, selenium, and L-tyrosine. I also explain how practices such as exercise, sleep, meditation and sauna can offset age-related declines in growth hormone, to optimize overall hormone health and metabolism. The fact that we can naturally offset growth hormone decline with sleep, exercise, and sauna is huge! It’s a great counterpoint to the idea that aging = inevitable decline. The body is adaptable—we just have to give it the right inputs!

Summary: exercise for 60m, try sauna, don’t eat before bed, don’t eat too much sugar, go to bed on time

i blamed slow metabolism on age but labs through 'vital test hub' told a different story. thyroid was borderline and growth hormone markers were low

Dr. Huberman, your insights on metabolism, growth hormone, and thyroxine are truly eye-opening. The way you break down complex scientific concepts into practical knowledge is incredible. This video not only deepened my understanding of how these hormones influence energy and fat metabolism but also sparked a greater curiosity in science for me. Your ability to blend neuroscience with physiology makes learning fascinating and applicable to daily life. I now find myself diving into research papers and exploring topics I never thought I’d be interested in. Thank you for making science so engaging and accessible -your work is truly inspiring!

This video is packed with great insights! Understanding how thyroid and growth hormone regulate metabolism is crucial, yet so many people overlook it. One thing that really stood out to me is how sleep plays a huge role in balancing these hormones. A good night’s rest can boost thyroid function and optimize natural GH production. Thanks for breaking it all down in such an easy-to-understand way

25:15 A 16x increase is actually a 1500% increase not 1600%. A 100% increase is a doubling, 200% is a tripling, etc. Great video 💪🏻🤙🏻
