Fun Fact: The production team took marine biology college courses so they could portray everything from the fish's movement to certain behaviors as accurately as possible. And it really paid off. This movie looks and feels amazing.
They managed to make a Willam Dafoe fish so charming that people thirst over him to this day.
As a kid, this film is a fun adventure about talking fish. As an adult, it's a beautiful story about a father learning to let go and let his child be independent. I love how early Pixar focused on making their films equally enjoyable for kids and their parents.
Growing up as a kid when this movie came out in Australia,we would call going for a swim at the beach “Visiting Nemo”
At the first test screening, the prologue was a flashback. This didn't have the desired effect because the audience didn't like Marlin and found him annoying. That's why the flashback became the prologue in order to feel more empathy for Marlin and his behavior right from the start. And I love his reaction after Nemo is captured. He didn't hesitate for a second and went into the open sea to save his son. Any fear of the unknown was forgotten because the only thing that mattered was saving his child.
49:35 To answer from earlier, the reason why her memory gets better is because she’s not stressed and she’s with somebody that cares about her. When she’s stressed, she forgets things. So now that she’s alone again, her memory is struggling.
One of the best things about this movie is the fact that the term "lucky fin" is now being used by the community of people with limb differences. That's the power of movies.
It's still so jarring how dark the beginning of this movie is lol
Interesting to note: As an in-joke reference to Filipino culture, the diver’s name Dory is trying to memorize (P. Sherman) is the Filipino pronunciation for “fisherman.” In fact, since the setting takes place in Australia, Pixar actually traveled there and some of the local crew living there consisted mostly of Filipino.
