Respect to Ahmed who bravely put himself out there. There's actually so much value in this coaching session for listeners because he is making a lot of mistakes and there's many areas he can improve on. It's easy to judge him sitting back but real interviewing is obviously very challenging and messy. This is amazing value for engineering community, thank you Steve!
Can we please have more of this type of content? Live coaching someone who wants to get to next level.
the whole industry has gotten so performative.
the first question was rough i was yelling at the screen, "just tell me what the disagreement was!"
This entire video is such a great reminder of why working at big tech companies sucks so hard.
My read: He was concerned disclosing confidential information in a public setting. Once NDAβs are truly unenforceable and Engineers have the confidence they can speak about the things they built openly, I think the level of ability for that engineer to share their true contributions will lift markedly
So itβs not really about doing meaningful work β itβs about packaging answers in a way that keeps the interviewer happy long enough to move you to the next level. Thatβs the kind of corporate game I canβt stand.
Really great stuff, surprised this is free. More engineers need to focus on learning the science of persuasion & storytelling - it's our achilles heal as technical people.
