The director and writer, Takashi Yamazaki confirmed that Noriko's survival is from the same phenomenon that allows Godzilla to regenerate. The black mark seen on her neck are Godzilla's cells. This interview was back in April during Godzilla Fest in Osaka if anyone wants the details.
what doesn't kill you, kills you later
This is easily my favorite Godzilla movie and should have won more Oscars.
The reason it HAD to be Tachibana was because he was the only engineer that would have supported Shikishima's kamikaze plan without spilling it to the rest of his compatriots.
Another note is that we cannot really know if Shikishima "volunteered" to be a kamikaze. Kamikazes were more heavily used as a desperation attempt once they began losing the war (some exceptions), but once they ran out the enthusiastic volunteers, they began using coercion, shame, etc to get pilots to become kamikazes. I think it is more likely that Shikishima was coerced due to the fact that his mission is towards end of the war, and he obviously was not enthusiastic about the mission considering he opted out.
if there is one thing i learned from this movie, is that noriko was def a keeper frfr.
I loved it because it was a beautiful story about post-WWII Japan. I especially liked how it showed the perspective of the soldiers and "common" citizens and how they felt about the war and the fighting. Oh, and there's a Godzilla.
Huge thank you for checking out the video. Keep an eye out for our Godzilla X Kong breakdown coming soon.
I was barely awake and thought to myself "Thats a weird hair spot"
The G-cells on her neck is a stroke of genius writing. I actually didn’t notice them the first time I saw the movie, so although I was elated that she had survived, I had to invent totally unrealistic ideas in my mind to explain how, as it was very obvious that there is absolutely no way a human being could possibly survive a blast like that. The shock wave alone would be deadly, not to mention all the various shards and chunks of debris being propelled by it at supersonic speed - her body would have been shredded and pounded to mush. Regeneration by being exposed to G-cells is the only explanation that makes sense.
