I can speak to the idea of “repetition” and exercise … after a large brain hemorrhage in my parietal and temporal lobes @ the age of 22 (right side brain) I literally had no short term memory. Extremely exhausting and miserable feeling… just keep trying and using your mind to change your brain. 7 years out and substantially better. God bless ya’ll

Thank you for the tools. Let me make kind of a cheat sheet: - repetition - emotions with release adrenaline, epinephrine, dopamine etc - caffeine or other stimulants - better take stimulants late in the learning not before - naps after learning in 1 or 2 hours - chronic stress is detrimental to learning - exercises especially cardiovascular - mental snapshot or take a photo a camera with a reason - Déjà vu - brief daily meditation of 13 minutes

Thank you Andrew for reminding people these protocols should not be abused or practiced too excess. I feel in this day and age as soon as we learn something new that may benefit us we rush to execute it with little regard to long term safety. All this makes me wonder about how learning and schools and studying will look like in the future will classrooms have sinks for ice bathes will we be at home or offices with tubs next to our study and work areas living up north I always remember leaving school in winter going home was a big wake-up call no matter how sleepy I was during class. God bless you for sharing all the wisdom and knowledge you learn.

Great episode. As I get older, i worry about losing my memory. As a young student and later as a mature student, I seemed to have an incredible memory. I now wonder, if during those times, I was under a lot of pressure and so generated a lot of natural adrenaline. Interestingly, I seem to be able to drag up the most random bits of knowledge, for example when watching a quiz show etc. Reflecting on this, it seems to be when a particular sequence of words ie the way a question is posed that , stimulates my recall (about a subject). Also, I've heard that scent can be particularly evocative for recall. Not sure how that works.
