Description

You might know Nick Searcy from Justified, Fried Green Tomatoes, or maybe 40 other films that he's done. He's a terrific character actor, with a new book called Justify This, which I recommend enthusiastically. Like the author, it’s smart, funny, and honest. Nick and I met over Zoom about a year and a half ago, shortly after he released a movie called Capitol Punishment. The film chronicles the events of January 6th, and does so in a way that’s (profoundly) inconsistent with the finding of the January 6th Committee. In fact, Capitol Punishment nearly got him cancelled. Controversy notwithstanding, I thought it was a film worth talking about, and welcomed Nick onto the podcast to discuss it. I’m glad I did. And I’m doubly glad I invited him back 18 months later, after the country had a chance to really consider the events in question. I admire Nick, not because of the things we agree on, but because he was willing to risk his career by making a film that made a lot of powerful people very uncomfortable. You may not agree with his politics, but you can’t deny his integrity or his courage. Or, modesty aside, the excellence of our conversation. #podcast #USA #movie Get a copy of "Justify This: A Career Without Compromise": https://amzn.to/3HwwVLi A special thanks to Good Ranchers. Nick - We've not met. As a seventy year old woman, I was the first or second person arrested on January 6. My experience completely supports and proves that the crowd was attacked by the Metropolitan and Capital police first. A picture of me being arrested was sent across the country by the Associated Press. The picture shows a gun directed at the crowd before the crowd was on the steps. I also confronted a young man who was clearly not a patriot, and was inciting the riot police. Thank you for your documentaries.

It really hurts to be wrongly accused. Cheney needs to pay these people retribution. Out of her own pocket.

I met Nick in Franklin, NC at the Currahee Brewery. My brother and I had just finished hiking part of the AT and I was going back to Texas. I let him I know I was a fan and started rattling off several of movies and even some of his online content. After he realized I was not a stalker he mentioned he was working on a project about the truth surrounding Jan 6. This was before he fired his agent. Nick was all class and found me and brother outside by the river and said goodbye before he left.
