I agree about Dominic as Charles. With Josh O’Connor I felt like he really embodied him, his mannerisms and his walk and way of speaking. But with Dominic I just saw Dominic, biting his lips like usual not even sounding like him either. Elizabeth nailed it though! When she was recording the tapes for the book I felt I was watching the documentary Diana In Her Own Words
My favorite scenes here were the Sidney Johnson's relationship/dynamic with Mohamed Al Fayed and The former Kind Edward. Most of the reviewers I saw didn't talk about it or mentioned it which was sad. I also liked the scene where the senior Al Fayed kept on spending money just to fit in the British royal circles, and he's so determined to be an insider. Diana's scenes were also spectacular, Elizabeth Debicki was spot on.
Really admired the fact they acknowledged Diana's partner in later life. There is so little mentioned of him and his past. Real treat.
Binge watched it yesterday, and I found it pretty good. It ends only 2 months before her and Dodi's death, I'm glad there was an episode covering the rise of El Fayad and his relationship with his son it explains a lot. Also the forged documents by Bashir to dupe Diana into trusting him (sneaky little fecker) I did wonder what all the fuss was about the BBC having to apologise to her family a while back. All in all a good series, nothing really that isn't in the public domain to damage the royal family so I don't know why a swathe of society were clutching their pearls over it lol
I have never understood how the Church of England/monarchy was so against divorce and re-marry when it was LITERALLY created by Henry VIII to divorce Catherine and marry Anne! What a joke.
The portrayal of Diana was haunting. I was working at the BBC (in the US) at the time Diana died. I had to log footage used by Infotainment shows, so I saw endless clips of Diana in that blazer. Those scenes in the episode took me back to watching random moments from the interview while trying to reconcile she was actually gone.
I was wondering if they were going have everyone stand on apple carts to offset Debicki's towering height but looks like they just ran with it.
Just better than ever. Obviously knowing history is the major spoiler, every moment still got me. Like having a goldfish's memory
Your comments matched mine exactly! Dominic West was not a good embodinent of Charles, neither was Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth. But in all fairness, there wasnt as much material to make her shine. And following Claire Foy and Olivia Coleman was REALLY tough. But Elizabeth Debicki was so similar to Diana that it was eerie watching her. She really nailed it.Hope she gets the golden globe. The guy who played mohammed Al Fayed ws pretty good, too, as was Olivia Williams as Camilla.
