The Anti Xeelee & The Last Entity

The universe is vast, more vast than the human mind can conceive. And it is also old, impossibly old. The human race has existed for roughly 100,000 years, a blip when compared to the long history of the cosmos. In all that time billions upon billions of years, what other life came into existence? Sure the first intelligent race didn’t just form 100,000 years ago, can’t possibly be the first. If so, who was, and heights did their civilization rise to and where are they now? The Xeelee Sequence by Stephen Baxter is a collection of science fiction books and short stories that follow the history of the cosmos dominated by an elusive race of beings known as the Xeelee. They are an ancient race so advanced that mere scraps of their technology left behind discarded by them could change the trajectory of an entire species. Unbeknownst to humanity, who only saw the Xeelee as a threat and a competitor, the Xeelee had a great mission. Humanity waged a war with the Xeelee that lasted a hundred thousand years but in reality humankind would prove to be no match for the great Xeelee, in reality the Xeelee fought a much greater war. A war for the fate of the universe against entities made of dark matter. These entities form at the beginning of the universe, they lived within stars and consumed them, if these entities won against the Xeelee, the fate of the universe would be darkness. But the Xeelee had a plan, a plan spanning across time, forward and backwards. The AntiXeele was a constructed entity, a being created with the purpose of orchestrating the Xeelee’s great works and seeing it through.
