In abolishing nearly every independent agency in the United States, the Roberts Court handed Donald Trump more power than a king. That was the observation of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, citing the scholarship of Boston University law professor Jed Shugerman. "Parliament often restricted the Crown’s ability to remove even high-level royal officers, and States with vesting clauses like the Constitution’s similarly allowed for limits on gubernatorial removal powers," Sotomayor wrote in her dissent.
