Description

Gisèle Pelicot was the woman at the centre of the biggest rape trial in French history. For a decade her husband drugged and raped her, and brought at least 70 men into their home in order to rape her too. She made the remarkable decision to let the world know who she was - waiving her legal right to anonymity, before the trial of her rapists began. Her powerful plea - that shame must change sides - resonated around the world. Ahead of the publication of her memoir, A Hymn To Life, she talks for the first time about what happened to her and shares a powerful message of hope. What I remember most about the trial is her grace, her strength. It’s not just a sad story. It’s a story about dignity, courage and hope.

the security guard at the supermarket who called the police and would not allow mr. pelicot to leave should get more recognition. He insisted that the women that were up skirted press charges. he is the hero who brought this horror to light and got mr. pelicot jailed. In addition, Mr. Pelicot is suspected of SA and murder of 2 female real estate agents in the 1990's. So he has been abusing women forever and it is only the supermarket security guard who caught him. The man deserves more credit.

What dignity this woman has, how she has dealt with this disgusting treachery, shows a level of self awareness and class that is very rare in today’s world

What was possibly the most disturbing aspect of this case for me was that the rapists who were caught and put on trial all generally lived within a 50km radius of the Pelicot home. These weren't men who made the journey from all around the globe because they were a rare breed in their depravity. If all the rapists caught were already within the local vicinity, then just how rife must their monstrous mentality be worldwide? How many men would be prepared to rape if they were convinced they could get away with it? Merci Gisèle pour votre courage.
