I love how this trilogy is not scared of making sacrifices like that. First, Hiccup's leg, then his dad and lastly, Toothless. It's realistic that's probably why it really resonates with the audience.
My favorite quote from this movie was near the end when Hiccup sends Toothless and the other dragons to the hidden world. He says, "We don't deserve you...yet." This shows that Hiccup still has faith that humans and dragons can one day co-exist. Despite all the bad people he's met and fought with.
When Hiccup is creating Toothless' new tail, and Astrid says "you tried this before and it didn't work", its referencing a short film/special that takes place not long after the first movie. Hiccup makes a wing for Toothless to fly on his own but the latter doesn't want it. He destroys the wing to say "if i can't fly with you, i don't want to fly at all"
I like the ending monolog, implying that this universe takes place in the real world, with dragons being gone for so long they're now thought only as myths, and that they wait for the time we can live together in peace
One of the rare animated trilogies that doesn’t have a bad movie. Sure, some might see one as the weakest compared to the others, but overall, it’s hard to imagine anyone not enjoying all three films, especially with how the characters grow and mature throughout the series.
"There were dragons... when I was a boy... Where they went, only a few know." That line actually comes from the opening of the books these movies are based on. For years on end, this simple sentence will cause people to spontaneously cry, and for good reason. This trilogy is a perfect emotional ride, and the closing out of the trilogy represents the loss of childhood innocence and the wistfulness that comes with it so well. None of us really understood until that moment that we were not ready for a world without dragons, and we will always feel their loss.
Grimmel truly was the greatest and best written villain of the entire franchise. For him to not only be an evil force, but also be basically a dark mirror of what Hiccup could've become had he killed Toothless when they met. Plus the fact that he's the reason why the Nightfuries are basically extinct is insane, especially considering how powerful Toothless is. And in the end even though Grimmel died, he technically got what he wanted; a world without Dragons, no longer living among humans.
there's nothing more endearing than seeing two grown men squealing, you guys are adorable and this reaction was everything!! Thank you so much!
12:06 Stoick never wanted to massacre all dragons. He wanted to defend his home from what, from his point of view, were unprovoked attacks. He hated dragons, sure, but not enough to want them to be completely eradicated. In the first movie he specifically says that the reason he wants to find and destroy the dragon nest is so that the dragons will be driven away and forced to find new foraging/hunting grounds away from Berk.
