Milan, 1494: Leonardo da Vinci was an exceptional man, and everyone who met him described him as a genius. And yet, he was now 42 years old – a middle-aged man in an era when life expectancy was 40 - And he still hadn’t produced anything that would be considered a masterpiece by his contemporaries. Many of his works were unfinished or in private collections, there were no great public works that people could see, no architectural marvels and no distinguished altarpieces for cathedrals. Nothing that could be considered worthy of his potential. Then, he was asked to paint a wall. IMPORTANT! Subscribe and click the bell icon to be notified! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCePD... I cannot say how much these videos are appreciated, so many history channels cover the broader picture themes, wars, economics, sciences.. but the arts are an equal part of human experience & history that deserve the quality you always present them in! Always looking forward to the next

I’ve seen the Last Supper in person, and at this point I’ve probably read close to three dozen books about da Vinci, including one specifically about this mural. Still, your video managed to teach me some new things. Thank you.

This is the best essay video about the Last Supper that I've seen.. you not only covered its concept and method it was done but also the context in how it was made.. the meticulous thought and detail of the composition, mastery of light and perspective, the alignment of art and mathematics.. utterly beautiful! I wish I had an art history professor like you when we were learning about these great pieces.

I can’t get over the production value, articulate script, historical depth, and artistic insight your videos always give. You help me appreciate the historical and technical context of visual art in a way I have never been able to. Some paintings are so ubiquitous (like The Last Supper) that they become almost a rote cliche, but your videos breathe a whole new life into images I’ve seen a million times but haven’t known how to appreciate.

Thank you for not using a stupid AI voice over, there is no human connection with it, no emphasis, no emotion...so thank you 🙏

I saw the Last Supper in Milan, in 1968, when I was 16 yrs old. The painting was alive. The moment it depicted was perfectly discernable. I will never forget the impact of being in the same room with it. And I am not at all religious. Thank you for a superb and thoughtful analysis of this masterpiece.

When I was a little child I saw this and thought, “oh, who’s that lady?”.
