George C. Scott won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, but he declined it, citing a dislike of the voting process and the concept of acting competitions. He was the first actor to do so. Also, barely anyone reacts to Patton! I salute you for visiting these forgotten classics.
"Rommel, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!!" Best line in the movie. 😂
I am proud to say that I was one of those grandsons the general mentioned in his speech. My grandfather served in the 94th Infantry Division of General Patton's Third Army. In third grade, I had to do a book report based on a biography. I was at my grandparent's house. Papaw saw me reading a book and asked me what I was reading. It was a biography of General Patton. He said, "General Patton was my commanding general during the war." I had NEVER heard him speak about his service. From that moment until his death 11 years later, we talked about the war and his part in it. I am proud to this day of my grandfather's service.
Despite all of his pomp, he was buried in Europe next to his men. In the end, he was a soldier .
Funny Story. When Patton was in his first year at West Point he almost flunked out. Years later they interviewed him and asked him why he almost failed his first year. Patton said that he couldn't find the library. West Point commissioned a statue be made of Patton. He is standing holding a pair of binoculars close to his face. They placed the statue right in front of the library facing the main entrance.
Winner of 7 Oscars including Best Picture. One of the best biographical war movies ever made.
George C. Scott is acting royalty.
My name is George. My father served as a tank commander in Patton's third army in WWll, from Normandy until the end. This is the only movie my father ever took me to see.
My grandfather fought under General Patton
My uncle was a WW2 combat veteran, and Patton was his commanding officer. He loved him.
