"i never did tell you about my son, did i?" that scene gets me every time. ๐ขwhat an absolute masterpiece of a movie!
Gattaca is one of those movies that ages like fine wine.
The original tagline for this movie always gets me: "There is no gene for the human spirit"
I love the symbolism of Jerome's silver medal reflecting the fire and turning gold at the end ๐ฅ
The score for this movie is STUNNING
I like that the doctor knew all along but kept the secret.
โYouโre going to miss your flight, Vincent.โ And Vincent has no words. In ten seconds they gave the doctor a whole movieโs worth of character building.
Wow. If Cassie from 4 years ago heard today's Cassie say "you know how I love a good sci-fi with a creative idea". It's been a heck of a ride. ๐
This movie is one of the top five movies Iโve ever seen changed my life. I watched it right after I was put in a wheelchair. It is the main reason I am still here today. Thank you for reacting to this movie.
"Boys. It's not about that." Actually, hon, it is EXACTLY about that. The swim is the whole point of the movie. What makes the difference is not the potential. What makes the difference is the person's willingness/ambition/devotion/dedication/resolve. Vincent decided one day that he would die to succeed. he was willing to die to achieve his dreams. Succeed or die trying. His brother had all the potential to make the swim across the channel. His brother had fear and couldn't handle the pain of exhaustion and was not willing to gamble a life of mediocrity for a chance of exceptionalism. The point is that exceptionalism is earned, never given, never inherited. His obsession for the stars is a perfect metaphor for him chasing his dreams. He would reach the stars or die trying (que Don Quixote's song Impossible Dream straight from la mancha). This is damn near a perfect movie. Criminally underrated. Should be a hollywood hall of famer equal to the greatest ever.
