ReaX23: The (Alleged) Age of Apocalypse
X-Men Evolution Season 3 Finale: Apocalypse Setup and Series Changes Review
This review dissects the dramatic weight of the X-Men Evolution Season 3 finale, assessing the compelling groundwork laid for Apocalypse and analyzing how the show has successfully evolved past its procedural format toward a larger narrative.
Short Summary
- The finale powerfully transitions the narrative from procedural story arcs to a larger serialized plot, despite the show's impending shortened final season.
- Key character moments include Rogue absorbing multiple powers and the long-awaited confrontation between Rogue and Gambit.
- Apocalypse serves primarily as a teaser for Season 4, hinting at stolen powers and potential shifts in status quo, including Jean's role.
- The episode showcases impressive casual superpower use and deep comic references, such as parallels to the Age of Apocalypse storyline.
The host breaks down the X-Men Evolution Season 3 finale, focusing on the strategic shift away from standalone episodes toward continuous, high-stakes storytelling. While the setup for the next "big bad," Apocalypse, is solid, the host notes disappointment that the actual confrontation is deferred, given the show's limited remaining run time.

“I think I need some therapy” is a sentence that could single-handedly solve almost any X-Men comic Edit: yes I’m more than aware than it wouldn’t “solve” everything, it was a joke. However for the record, about half their problems WOULD be solved by therapy.
Can you please post it sooner I am a victorian boy with a deadly wilness and I need to watch your video during my weekly lunch break before I die in the factory.
Apocalypse's real mutant power is being able to pull off blue lipstick so effortlessly. 💙
Interesting fact: Rogue transformed into an owl to fly in the rain, but owls can't fly when wet; their feathers aren't waterproof like those of other birds, which allows them to fly silently. 🤓👆🏼
“Wolverine and the X-Men” is supposed to be a spiritual successor to Evolution. Might be worth watching 👍
So I think the way Cerebro works in this universe is that it amplifies Charles' powers to essentially scan the minds of others. The way it finds mutants I think is once people are *aware* of that mutant's powers, it comes to the forefront of their mind, which means Charles can pick it up with Cerebro. But he can't just hunt down one specific person or scan for mutants the way he normally can.
this show was the first time I actually noticed characters being strangely silent. its because if the character doesn't speak then the actor doesn't have to be paid for that episode
14:30 Apocalypse had a run-in with Kang or two. In the most recent Kang run, it was Apocalypse that deposed him.
I actually prefer the slow burn of Apocalypse in this series over every other version of him. This is the only version of the character that actually feels like an epic level threat rather than just a recurring nuisance.
So genuinely enthralled with the brief stop to do a short skit in the style of his tiktoks with Magneto and Xavier having a banter, these reactions are always so entertaining, you couldn't pay me to stop coming back
