anton, your coverage of this incredible discovery could be a turning point in my career. i’m graduating as a molecular/cellular biologist focused on studying animal behavior without a direction on genes of focus. this very well may be a fascinating point of study moving into a phd program, so thank you for sharing 🤝
Some bird species have words for different kinds of predators. Moreover, they have some sort of grammar, so they react to a specific sequence of words, like "danger snake" causes a snake alarm behavior, but "snake danger" does not, while "danger" alone causes a general alarm reaction.
I mean its makes sense, if you hear a group of people freaking out because they are terrified it sounds just like a group of excited/terrified chimps.
It's the timbre of chimp vocalizations. Sometimes it's hard to tell screaming juvenile humans from screaming juvenile chimps.
I can tell what's going on on our 5 acres by if/how the dogs bark, even awaking me from a sound sleep. Also the bird sounds when a fox is around. I also can tell my teenagers are home by the internet speed.
Didn't need science to prove we're like chimps. See it, hear it everyday
"you can hear yourself in one of the videos". Feeling called out...
I wonder if another part of the reason we are so sensitive to chimps is because of how much of a threat they are compared to bonobos.
Good to know I can understand chimps, because I sure hell don't understand most humans these days.
Did they test Joe Rogan's brain?
