This was me to a T! I struggled in first and second grade with reading and learning differences and finally received pull out help for two years and then magically was “fixed” in fifth grade (I feel like I am undiagnosed ADHD). I loved going to school and my teachers (they saw my struggle, most loved and helped me through it!) but my brain just didn’t work the same way. Luckily I had a dad that went back to night school in his 40’s to complete his high school degree, so I didn’t have the pressure at home (3rd of 4 girls). As long as I “tried my best” “. Long story short, I took detailed notes every class, outlined the chapters, completed extra study guides and had tutoring all through high school and college. At 42 I went back for my master’s degree and am grateful for every painful minute and completed it. Parents be proud of your kids and be their advocate in any passion they pursue. Push back if they aren’t “making the grades” and tell teachers they need to step up the game and teach in a way they can learn. It will mean all the difference. ❤🙏🏼

I listened to this and I cried, being a mother of two and a work from home mom I have been running on autopilot that led to burnout. I ended up hating myself, my job, and the burnout rubbed me off of the opportunities to be present, enjoy the moments and stay grounded. Thank you for sharing Dr. Carl and Mel.

My brain does this automatically whenever I'm going through a bad experience or a traumatic one. When my dad just died, I suddenly noticed the details about my grandma's old carpet. When I'm at a funeral, I focus on the first flower I see. When I'm uncomfortable, I focus on someone's clothing. When my boyfriend was breaking up with me, I was not reactive in the first minutes because I was watching our old chair in detail. I never do it purposely, my brain does this automatically. I had no idea it's something great.

Omigosh! I carry a couple of pairs of the rainbow glasses - because they are so fun, but also to hand them to someone and say "do you need a change in perspective?"! He just said the same thing!
