  • Stop increasing fiber if your gut is damaged, as it acts like sandpaper on an open wound.
  • Skip commercial low-fat, sugary yogurts; opt for high-quality kefir or plain, grass-fed yogurt instead.
  • Do not rely on antacids, which treat the symptom of acid reflux instead of the root cause: low stomach acid.

This guide systematically deconstructs common dietary and lifestyle advice that often harms the delicate gut microbiome. Applying these targeted corrections can significantly enhance digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall well-being.

Trying to improve gut health with fiber Increasing fiber is one of the worst things you can do for your gut, yet it’s commonly recommended. If your gut is damaged, fiber can exacerbate the issue, contributing to gas and inflammation. If you have gut inflammation, the carnivore diet can help! The carnivore diet helps increase glutamine, an amino acid that promotes gut healing. Zinc carnosine and butyrate, found in butter, are excellent for a healthy gut. Intermittent fasting and periodic prolonged fasting are crucial for maintaining digestive health. Approximately 40% of the population has SIBO. L. Reuteri can help reduce SIBO and has many other amazing benefits. It increases oxytocin, lowers stres, and even increases social capacity. Ensure you have strong stomach acid for healthy digestion and protection from microbes. 2. Commercial probiotics and yogurt The amount of probiotics in these products is so low that it won’t make a difference in gut health. Many commercial yogurts are low-fat and contain added sugar and starch. 3. Colon cleansing This eliminates beneficial gut bacteria, which can ultimately lead to constipation and other health issues. Avoid detoxing and focus on a healthy diet. 4. Antibiotics Your gut microbiome does not fully recover after taking antibiotics. Bacteria that survive antibiotics can become antibiotic-resistant superbugs! If you have to take antibiotics take a good probiotic simultaneously. 5. Antacids Acid reflux is a valve problem caused by low stomach acid. Weakening your stomach acid worsens the problem. Strong stomach acid is vital for digestion, protection against pathogens, and mineral absorption. 6. Low-fat diets Low-fat diets are bad for digestion because fat stimulates the gallbladder to release bile. Low bile leads to constipation and the inability to kill off microbes in the small intestine. 7. Balanced diet Everything in moderation is the worst advice! Lowering carbs from 45% to 65% of your calories to 10% can significantly improve digestion. 8. Superfood shakes Superfood shakes and smoothies with kale, spinach, and fruit can overload the small intestine with fiber. Red meat is the best superfood! Key points from the video: • Too much fiber = bloating, inflammation (use cooked/fermented instead) • Fasting heals: stop constant snacking • Use glutamine + zinc carnosine for gut repair • Avoid commercial yogurts & low-fat diets • Protect stomach acid; avoid long-term antacids • Limit antibiotics; restore microbes with kefir / L. reuteri yogurt • Eat for your microbes, polyphenols, butter, olive oil • Skip modern wheat – causes inflammation & blocks minerals Lesson: Heal your gut gently: less fiber, fewer snacks, more real food and rest.

At 10 years old I was diagnosed with a rare and incurable illness that affects the esophagus and stomach. Both of my parents are doctors, work in hospitals. I went through surgery 3 times and I was fed condensed milk and cookies as 90% of my diet for years because I was always losing weight. I had terrible acid reflux (I even vomited blood), insufferable pain in my chest, always felt tired and even started feeling suicidal by 18. At one point I was taking 16 pills a day (including anti-depressants). I decided to quit everything without telling anyone. Started going to the gym, slowly turned to an organic diet (and lately a carnivore based organic diet), prioritised praying and therapy (CBT) and now at 22 yo almost all of my symptoms are gone. I refuse to believe what mainstream doctors say simply because they are doctors. I didn't get the vaccine during covid and my family isolated me because of it but I don't regret it. Dr. Berg is the only doctor I trust, my parents are doctors and my 2 siblings too! Trust your intuition, do your research, defend your health no matter what others say. It's the most valuable thing you have. Dear Dr. Berg, thank you SO MUCH for everything you do.

I had acid reflux several years ago. I went to my gastorenterologist. The first thing he recommended was taking Nexium for at least 6-8 weeks (and maybe forever). I asked him about taking Apple Cider Vinegar to which he laughed and said "it won't hurt you, but it won't help either". I started the Nexium but every time I missed a dose, the Acid Reflux was 2x worse. It was obvious it was making things worse. I immediately stopped the Nexium and started to take a tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegars 2x a day. Within one week, my Acid Reflux was gone FOREVER. Thank you Dr. Berg for everything you do!!
