im 30 years old, if it werent for my family and friends being here i would move. i genuinely believe that the UK is unsaveable now.
My nephew went to a university open day and remarked that it felt more like a Marxist training camp than an educational institution
My Gf and I just moved to Sydney, Australia, because we didn’t see any hope for the UK going forward and everyone is miserable, even if they pretend not to be. The move took us two years to orchestrate for various reasons, but with each passing week, it became clearer that we were making the right decision. By the time the British people collectively stand up and push back against the calamitous political class and institutions, it will be too late. Our ability to ‘just get on with it’ will be our downfall, as we will accept ever worsening conditions until our economy and culture is dead and buried. I’m proud to be British, not proud of what Britain has become
I resigned my commission from the British Army in summer 23. There were several reasons for my decision but the key one was because I no longer recognise my own country. Being from Notts originally, it’s clear to me my country which our forefathers defended has been given away by successive governments. It’s appalling.
Its such a shame. Britain had such a quaint, distinct, high trust culture then they allowed themselves to be utterly ideologically bulldozed.
Living in London, it's impossible to feel optimistic. I'm watching British culture dissolve rapidly on daily a basis
Mid 30s and fear the worst for the UK/Europe. The changes I've seen in my lifetime in the towns and cities around me are depressing. I'm not racist but I don't want the UK to become a majority migrant nation full of different cultures. I believe every country should have the right to remain homogenous. People will call you racist or throw the "Great Replacement Theory" trope at you for pointing out basic facts and figures around immigration.
Call me whatever you want, but I came to the UK in 2019 from Germany. I took a gamble at the time... in my head my thought process was: "If the UK can pull of Brexit and detach itself from EU, carving out its own niche, moving away from this concept of totally out of proportion blown government bureaucratic waterhead, if the UK can align itself closer to its strong allies like the US, if they get rid of all this nonsensical regulation and all these pointless laws and restrictons on everything, getting rid of net zero targets, embracing the power of business and private investment, unleashing its innovative power that this country has had over centuries... then maybe this will be a thriving country and economy..." What did we get? The single most incompetent Tory government that could have not done a worse job at delivering Brexit. A complete disaster. Wasting this once in a lifetime opportunity. Followed by a Labour government now that is just as equally unwilling to make any sort of necessary deep reforms. There was so much potential here, and it has completely been diminished by an utterly incompetent politica class and the civil service. Instead of embracing business, the free market, start ups, we squash everybody who wants to create something. Instead of investing into education, we chase ridiculously pointless net zero targets. Instead of expanding drilling in the North Sea, we get the highest energy prices in the developed world - now 4-8 times higher than in the US. Instead of making deep, meaningful reforms, people like Starmer pride themselves on stuff like raising the ISA amount from 30k to 35k - wow. makes such a humongous difference to people who cannot buy houses or groceries even. At every turn, these governments manage to select the worst of all paths. I believe the UK has so much potential... but with its horrible immigration crisis, suffocating businesses, this net zero nonsense, people not being able to get on the housing ladder (including me) etc... there is just no way. I don't see how anything gets better until we start making the necessary, sometimes unpopular reforms. Thatcher - say about her what you will - at least had the guts to address the pressing issues of her time and she found a way to bring this country back on track for a while. But who in the UK government is supposed to do that now? They are all weak cowards.
“And nobody knows how to get out of it!” Everybody knows how to get out of it.
