When the song reached no.1, Phil got to play live on BBC’s ‘Top of the Pops’ so he decorated the set with a paint can and a brush because he knew his ex would see it.

Why the hell would anyone want to get someone back that cheated on you with a Painter. That action alone tells you all you need to know about her.
There's another part of the story. When Phil appeared on Top of the Pops, he was playing the piano with a paint pot and brush on the top of it!

The part people always miss about the Sylvester Stallone story is he not only took less money for the starring role but he was essentially the first actor to take lifelong profit share of the movie which made him the wealthiest actor in Hollywood and started the trend of actors working for less but taking profits percentage options.
He left out that Rocky was inspired by an actual boxing match that Sly saw.
