Looking for the best small SUV? We pit the 2026 Mazda CX-5 against the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid to see which family hauler reigns supreme. Will the new CX-5 surprise us? Run a VIN check or license plate search to uncover maintenance history, open recalls, and title statuses before you buy at http://bumper.com/edmunds Mazda CX-5 Edmunds Review - https://www.edmunds.com/mazda/cx-5/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube Toyota RAV4 Edmunds Review - https://www.edmunds.com/toyota/rav4/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube Honda CR-V Edmunds Review - https://www.edmunds.com/honda/cr-v/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube More Edmunds Comparison Videos - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsSQoIGhBLpQwAPiW1fCPh4LEWxlbp9Cx Appraisal Tool - https://www.edmunds.com/appraisal/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube Car Listings - https://www.edmunds.com/new-cars-for-sale/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube Ratings and Reviews - https://www.edmunds.com/car-reviews/?utm_campaign=video_description&utm_source=youtube 00:00 Intro 00:31 CX-5 Pricing, Interior, & Tech 04:03 CX-5 Driving Impressions 05:59 CR-V Pricing, Interior, & Tech 08:49 CR-V Driving Impressions 10:07 RAV4 Pricing, Interior, & Tech 13:33 RAV4 Driving Impressions 14:38 Edmunds' Take There's an all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 on the market, but does it have what it takes to dethrone the titans of the small SUV class? To find out, we brought the newest Mazda out to the test track alongside the proven Honda CR-V Hybrid and the fully redesigned 2026 Toyota RAV4. The Mazda CX-5 has long been our pick for an SUV that can be genuinely fun to drive, but this new generation traded that handling zing for a more generic ride. While its interior features luxury-level leather and a massive infotainment screen, the lack of a hybrid powertrain option holds it back; the Mazda only gets 26 mpg combined. The 2026 Honda CR-V remains a masterclass in practicality and refinement. Families will appreciate the generous rear legroom and wide-opening rear doors that make it incredibly easy to install child seats. Plus, the hybrid powertrain delivers a solid 37 mpg. It offers a remarkably plush ride that floats over rough pavement, earning it a very respectable second-place finish in our rankings. However, the real star of the show is the all-new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which might just be the best hybrid SUV on sale today. Toyota made huge strides here by offering standard hybrid power across the board, achieving an incredible fuel economy of 42–44 mpg combined in AWD trims. Inside, you get top-notch tech like a massive digital gauge cluster, highly responsive infotainment, and tons of clever cargo space and storage cubbies. Taking first place in this comparison, the new RAV4 proves exactly why it's the most popular small SUV in America. The Mazda CX-5 was always the SUV for families who wanted style AND performance. Now it looks like Mazda has left some zoom-zoom on the table. Do you think its good looks are enough to steal buyers away from Honda and Toyota?

I'm so sick of digital climate/audio controls... can't wait for this trend to die completely.

Am I the only one who wants good safety features, physical buttons and knobs, a backup camera, and easy entry and egress? I could care less about fancy infotainment systems. Oh, and by the way, I want a spare tire and good mpg also.

I own a ‘21 RAV4 Prime. A plug-in hybrid. It currently has 94,000 miles. Now that the warmer weather is here I’m getting 50 miles each day on the HEV battery and 42 miles in the winter. I drove to Seattle and back recently, driving from sea level over a 3,000’ pass, 240 miles each way and averaged 40mpg to and from. So far I’ve had to replace tires, wiper blades, oil, filters and the original 12v battery. Oh, and the windshield was replaced after a rock cracked it. Insurance. So far I’ve been running 60% Electric and 40% gas over the life of the car. I charge it every night at home. I keep meticulous records of my gas and electric consumption. This has been the best auto purchase of my life and I’m over 70. When I purchased mine I found it to be noticeably quieter than the hybrid RAV4. I would expect the new model would be the same. My fully loaded XSE cost $48K new. A comparable 2026 model is $53K. But when I bought mine I qualified for the federal $7500 tax credit and $2500 Oregon rebate. I ended up paying less the hybrid cost at the time. Thank you EDMUNDS for the comprehensive comparison.

Thank you for the video. But from rotary dial to pure touch screen is not an upgrade it is literally a downgrade. Buttons and dials are way better and also more expensive vs touch screen

CRV needs a refresh and a few extra features but its still, hands down, the best of the 3 in my opinion

I can’t believe how stupid the rav4 interior is. They made buttons for things people seldom or never use and put all the most used controls into the touchscreen. What!?!?!? How often is anyone especially a rav4 driver turning off traction control? Never am I right. But that’s a huge ass button. Insane. Absolutely idiotic.

I had a recent 1400 km trip with the European CX-5 2026 (Homura, AWD). I've got 36 mpg (US) combined (some highways, 'normal' roads, cities, passing through mountains on winding roads). So it's not as bad as on paper.

Overall fantastic job on this video. Thank you for creating it. One comment I don't understand though: "Although there is more room in the back of this CRV it's just not as versatile". Stated while sitting inside the back of the CRV when that didn't seem possible in the CX-5 or RAV4. That seems pretty versatile to me.
