A slightly used Rivian Quad is a heck of a deal.
Glad that the quad motor Rivian, which wasn't part of the test, won
Air down. Why would anyone be offroad and not aired down?
I’m glad I own the quad for my Costco and Whole Foods trips!
The air suspension has no articulation in Highest, which is the mode you seem to have done this whole test in. I blame Rivian for not instructing you otherwise, but redoing this entire test in the appropriate mode (High) would made a big difference.
Speaking from the perspective of a dual motor R1T owner, I think the main issue she is having with articulation is that she has it at the max ride height. At that setting you will have zero droop. I do agree, this platform needs a locker though. But again, I can't help but think how this matchup would have done at the standard ride height setting considering it already has great clearance to begin with and really didn't need to be jacked up that high for the terrain they were on. Also, she's wrong about the fundamentals of how brake vectoring on open differentials works. Yes you "delete" torque at the braked wheel, but it effectively doubles the torque available from the motor to the other wheel. Not to prop the tech as it can never be as responsive as a mechanically locked differential, and it does require a well calibrated braking force to send that torque to the wheel with traction. Something that I hope Rivian can continue to improve via OTA updates, but I suspect there is a safety margin they build in there as not to overload the differential. Here's to wishful thinking of a future aftermarket locker for a niche customer like me. 😂
There is absolutely a tire track view. Just click the car icon which is in 360 standard in the camera view. Was a good video tho. As a Rivian owner I think this was a good video. You guys just have to make sure that features you say aren’t there are actually not there. That goes for both vehicles. Now I would like to see to a video of the dual vs tri motor Rivian. That would great content to see
R1t is the best truck i've ever driven. The steering feel and handling is outstanding.
Would you have any hesitation about taking an EV or a hybrid off-road? Let us know in the comments.
Thanks for putting the dual motor through all of its paces. Makes it clear that the tri-motor with rock crawl is clearly more capable.
