Join Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey as they tumble down the rabbit hole in their Reaction & Review of Disney's classic 1951 animated film Alice in Wonderland, the whimsical adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. Directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske, this iconic Disney feature brings to life a vibrant world of dreamlike wonder and eccentric characters. Kathryn Beaumont (who also voiced Wendy in Peter Pan) stars as Alice, the curious young girl who follows the White Rabbit (voiced by Bill Thompson, Lady and the Tramp) into a surreal fantasy realm. The film features Ed Wynn (Mary Poppins, Babes in Toyland) as the delightfully unhinged Mad Hatter, Jerry Colonna as the March Hare, Verna Felton (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty) as the Queen of Hearts, and Sterling Holloway (The Jungle Book, Winnie the Pooh) as the ever-smiling Cheshire Cat. From the unforgettable “Unbirthday” tea party to the chaotic croquet match with the Queen, to the psychedelic musical number “In a World of My Own,” Alice in Wonderland is a landmark in animation history and Disney storytelling. With its surreal visuals, memorable voice work, and musical charm, this version of Alice’s adventures remains a fan favorite and continues to inspire generations. Young girls often wore “pinafores” over their dresses. A pinafore was a sleeveless apron-like garment which tied in the back and it would protect the dress from dirt or food stains, tears, etc. Dresses were more expensive, so they often were made of heavier material intended to last a long time, and young people didn’t often have an extensive wardrobe. But pinafores were more lightweight, easier to manufacture and afford, easier to wash and could be changed out more frequently.

32:28 something I didn’t realize until I was an adult is when The Mad Hatter and The March Hare say that The White Rabbit’s watch is EXACTLY 2 days slow that means that the time is accurate

The reason for the oyster looking at the calendar: The "R months" rule suggested that oysters are best eaten in months with an "r" in their name (September, October, November, December, January, February, March, and April). This rule originated from the idea that warmer months (May through August) are the oyster's spawning season, leading to less palatable meat and increased risk of bacterial contamination.

Alice is wearing a dress of what was called “Alice Blue.” President Teddy Roosevelt had a very well-known, strong-minded, daughter named Alice, who became a fashion style icon in the early 1900’s, and whose favorite color was a particular shade of blue. “Alice Blue” became a social phenomenon and many articles were manufactured in that color and a song titled “Alice Blue Gown” was written. Although this film/book is set in England, the animators had fun using the Alice Blue color on their Alice. Also, when the US Navy launched a ship named in honor of Teddy Roosevelt, it included the color Alice Blue to be used for its trim and insignia.

PLEASE DO Lady and the Tramp next! It’s such a fun Disney classic and I think John would love the humor in it.
