🇵🇭 Philippines Street Food in CDO: https://youtu.be/nwToqbn51fQ 👉 SUBSCRIBE for more: https://www.youtube.com/@MarkWiens 👕 T-shirts: https://store.migrationology.com/ Islamic City of Marawi, Philippines - Today we’re visiting Marawi, a city that’s famous for the wrong reasons, but should be famous for the friendly people and for having some of the tastiest food in the Philippines! Huge thank you to Chui (https://www.youtube.com/@TheChuiShow), go follow him for amazing food videos! Also, thank you to Jason, our Marawi City guide. Marawi is located on the island of Mindanao on the shores of Lake Lanao, and is home to the Maranao people, a Filipino ethnic group who are a majority Muslim. Most people in the Philippines have heard of Marawi City from the siege of Marawi, a months long battle that took place in 2017. But the city has been rebuilding and people are welcoming, and I guarantee you will enjoy the amazing food. Here’s everything we ate on this Marawi halal food tour: Badak Republik - This restaurant is known for serving badak, a Maranao jackfruit stew full of spices and palapa - it blew me away with flavor. You also need to know about palapa - Maranao spice blend with native scallions (sakurab), that’s used in every single dish. Marawi Restaurant - Next on this Filipino street food tour we continued to Marawi Restaurant serving authentic Maranao Filipino food. One of the standout dishes was piaparan chicken - chicken with shredded coconut, and I loved the use of palapa, coconut, and turmeric in almost all recipes. Dodol - When you’re in Marawi you must try dodol, a sweet rice toffee. The Farm Grill Marawi (https://maps.app.goo.gl/jGZ2T36dFiBvWePo9) - The highlight of our time in Marawi, Philippines was going to The Farm Grill for a grilled king tilapia, cooked in a rich coconut milk and palapa (Inaloban a Isda). It was lifechanging! As a Meranao, I truly appreciate your coming to Marawi. BUT, you should have tried BIYARING (ground raw tiny shrimps) with lots of green chillis and marinaut, PUSAN (Fermented tiny fish), BYANSOL (smoked seasoned fish), KARAE (Cooked Taro Stems), SULABAY (Rice cake porridge), NITIB (Coffee mixed with rice or corn powder), APANG (Rice Pancake), and TAPAY (fermented rice/cassava traditionally eaten with coconut milk and roasted shredded coconut). You missed half of your life haha There are lots of delicious Meranao dishes. You should hire me as your tourist guide next time LOL 😂
