It’s still mind blowing that in the same movie where he attached himself to st side of a REAL PLANE as it took off, he actually trained to hold his breath for 6 MINUTES AND 30 SECONDS IRL!!!
During the lie detector test, I think you are the first reactors to notice, that Benji didn't really answer any of the questions. He made very clever statements about him and Ethan , that were factually correct.
Rebecca Ferguson is THE BEST addition to this franchise! I love her character so much. Ilsa is iconic!
35:41 Tom Cruise trained with a military specialist to prepare for the underwater scene. He learned to hold his breath for up to 6 and a half minutes. Kate Winslet surpassed Tom's time and now holds the record for the longest breath held underwater by an actor on set, holding her breath for 7 minutes 15 seconds while filming Avatar: The Way of Water.
Christopher McQuarrie took these films to another level!
If you haven't noticed so far, whenever there's a time limit or a countdown, it's realistic. The bomb timer on Benji at the end is in real time. The scene is played out in real time to match. Cruise does this in other movies as well, like Top Gun Maverick. The turbine swim, the missile abort from the last movie, etc. Though not always exact, it's usually within a few seconds.
The series only gets better and better. Cannot wait to see the finale. Final Reckoning will be epic.
One of my favorite, subtle things about this movie is that the opera piece Nessun Dorma is actually Ilsa's musical motif throughout the movie. We even hear a minor key variation of it when she first appears on screen (even before the opera), and when she gets on the motorcycle after the defibrillator scene. It's also astounding and refreshing to me just how much of the spotlight this screenplay gives to her character. She actually saves Ethan's life THREE times in this (at the beginning when he's captured, when she shoots at him to alert him to run away at the opera, in the water tank). And then they give her the big hand-to-hand climactic action scene at the end.
The plane stunt was filmed just up the road from me. In itself it's a mind blowing stunt, but he did it multiple times to get everything that was needed. Tom Cruise gives everything, every time he steps on set.
