I wish Tom Cruise made more movies like this again
Criminally Underrated Tom Cruise movie
So it is heavily implied that Vic has a one-sided crush on Jack during their "past lives". Both of them despite having forgotten everything still carry remnants of that life with them. Jack has memories of his wife and while we never really get POV of Vic's memories it is highly implied that she probably gets flashes of them involving her feelings for Jack. So, she's willing to buy in this illusion of their work-wife-husband dynamic if she could hold on to Jack. She probably also (sort of) remember Julia as the obstacle to her "relationship" evident with the line "It's always been her isn't it?".
OST of this movie is astounding , and Joseph Kosinski constantly shows his ability to direct big scale movies with visual brilliance
I remember seeing this in the theater! One of the best end credits sequences of all time. The score, by M83, was so impactful.
The Yankees cap isn't the only thing in common with War of the Worlds. Freeman also reunites from War of the Worlds with Cruise. He was the narrator.
You can see a lot of design influences from Joseph Kosinski other film, Tron: Legacy (2010).
This movie kinda utilized a precursor of a Volume-set up. That sky castle set was shot practically on camera with a wrap around led screen, so they could shoot in "natural" light and capture all the reflections and glimmers for real, and not worry about color bleed and clean up in post. Looks fantastic. It isn't the first to use something like this, but they really took it to another level.
