Description

Beyoncé and Drake released house music albums this year, leaving fans confused by their shift from pop-soul sounds to dance beats. Despite popular belief, house music comes from the the 70s disco era and fostered a safe space for Black and queer folk to feel true liberation. Daily Show producer, Chelsea Williamson, house music great, DJ Derrick Carter, and music scholar and writer, Craig Seymour, join host Roy Wood Jr. to discuss the forgotten origins of house music. #BeyondTheScenes #DailyShow #Comedy #podcast Watch the Original Segment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fii1VZ1U0yg Follow Beyond the Scenes from The Daily Show with Trevor Noah: Watch full podcast episodes: dailyshow.com/beyond Listen wherever you get your podcasts: http://podcasts.iheartradio.com/5VF7TkWF?sid=soc Subscribe to The Daily Show: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwWhs_6x42TyRM4Wstoq8HA/?sub_confirmation=1 Follow The Daily Show: Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheDailyShow Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thedailyshow Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thedailyshow Stream full episodes of The Daily Show on Paramount+: http://www.paramountplus.com/?ftag=PPM-05-10aei0b Follow Comedy Central: Twitter: https://twitter.com/ComedyCentral Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ComedyCentral Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/comedycentral About The Daily Show: Trevor Noah and The Daily Show correspondents tackle the biggest stories in news, politics and pop culture. The young one researched the history of house music. The elders lived the history and could really speak to it. What an interesting dynamic 💪🏽👍🏽

Old house head here!!! I’ve been listening to house music since 1981. The first house song I heard was “Without You” by Touch. I was sold… absolutely 🥰LOVE🥰 it. There are different levels to house but MY HOUSE MUSIC is New York/Chicago based. 💖

Huge to see The Daily Show reaching the masses with this - educating on the whitewashing and appropriation. Honor & celebrate the roots! Also, Do or Die for life :p

I was there, as a teen, circa 83 and experienced the the beginning of house music on the south side of Chicago. I am glad I was there experiencing the formulation and evolution of the house music genre ... 🏠 #househead4life
