I tutored math all through my engineering degree, and my brother teaches. Math, especially Cal 3 and down, is a skill like any other. Doing a lot of it, solving problems and seeing the different shapes they take over and over again, is the only way to learn it. Same thing with software. You can read all the books and internalize all the theory you want, but there is no substitute for just doing the thing.
