Holy Cow, ‘The Pitt’ Took on ICE!

I’m a pediatric nurse in Seattle. I’ve had several families ask if our hospital was safe for them. ICE has brought in children for medical care. This is absolutely real.

Recently my son (14yrs) had to call the ambulance for me. I have epilepsy and he has had to do this before. This time they asked him what country I my passport is from. He was really confused because he was never asked this before. He responded "I guess America. I don't know." That is just so angering. Are they going to refuse care for an immigrant or send ICE out with the paramedics? I can't believe this. Also for reference we live in Florida.

12:25 Dude, look at the impact shows like M.A.S.H. had! TV shows SHOULD HAVE A "VIEWPOINT!" It's one of the most effective forms of protest that we have. Art is always about expressing a point of view. People just need to do braver about expressing it...

Unfortunately, they’re not exhibiting ANY “balance” when they slam innocent people into the ground in Real Life!!!

Whatever you do don’t whitewash the appearance of ice in a hospital. There have been a lot of people who weren’t allowed to have appropriate medical care because ICE wouldn’t let the medical staffs do their jobs.

I really appreciate Sonny saying you don’t need balance bc wtf is that. BALANCE? When it comes to masked men terrorizing people in hospitals, balance means showing the reality of that nightmare, not presenting a defense for it.

I saw an ice agent in full gear vest, gas canisters, gun, and mask doing his grocery shopping the other day. He scared and upset people but he was acting like everything was normal. I think you have to disassociate to do that job but I couldn't help watching him doing a mundane task and think what have we become?

The Pitt is good. And they have found the secret sauce to blending US reality into a show. Noah is a bright light. Stepping up to thank healthcare workers because they were shit on for wearing masks and trying to help people during Covid. Stay strong 💪 Hopefully the merger will not affect the show, but maybe it will. I will be out at that point. Not paying for BS.

You’re talking about how jamb packed the episodes are and how overwhelming to watch. That’s real life as a healthcare worker. We don’t get to break our hours up into episodes. We don’t get to decompress from the hard, scary, emotional moments. You literally move from one room to the other- in one room you’re verbally abused, the next you’re providing care to a critical patient, and next to someone who is trying to manage the daily challenges and complications of a chronic condition, etc. The challenge of getting accurate concurrent charting is very real. I challenge everyone to watch the episodes weekly, but at the end of the season watch as many episodes as possible on one sitting. I think it will provide perspective and compassion, maybe even a small measure of patience the next time you’re faced with an emergency yourself or with a family member.

Retired ER doc here. Our hospital was the designated trauma center for city employees, so when a cop or firefighter was brought in, the blue wall soon arrived ... and the waiting room emptied.
