Description

Access the masterclass instantly for free: https://nci.university/learn Your goals don’t fail because you lack discipline — they fail because they were aimed at the wrong system. Optimizing behavior without fixing brain chemistry is like issuing commands to a damaged machine. Until the chemical environment is right, effort just increases friction and burnout. All goals live in the conscious mind — but control does not. Real behavior is governed by the mammalian brain, the ancient systems that decide safety, threat, and energy allocation. Every resolution collapses when those lower systems detect risk, even if you consciously “want” the outcome. Goal-setting ignores this hierarchy — and that’s why it keeps failing. Once you target the parts of the brain actually in charge, change stops feeling like force. Discipline becomes unnecessary when the system itself is aligned. Disgust must be aimed at the behavior, not the self. That should be made clear.

"Behavior will change chemistry faster than any thought in your life ever will." This is a great line. Whenever I'm down if I ruminate or Doom scroll motivation content I just dig the hole deeper, but if I get out or work out I feel better within minutes.

Getting off all social media, taking 10,000iu of D3, K2, magnesium Glycinate, zinc, and saffron, not eating any processed/fast foods, no Starbucks, and little to no refined sugar, and eating high protein has absolutely made me feel 10000% better! I’m progressing in my goals, anxiety is down, system feels a lot more regulated, I don’t feel like I’m in a constant state of fight or flight anymore. Lifestyle changes can and do absolutely fix a lot of things!

I can’t even put into words how badly I’ve needed to see this. I was an extremely high achiever, but I fell into a DEEP depression, gained weight, isolated myself from everyone, and participated in deep self-destruction. I want to get my life back from the last 7 years of hell. I’m 28 and life isn’t over yet.

"I love you too much to let you do that" is a good thing to tell oneself when faced with destructive behaviour.

I hate it when I really want to do something but I don't want to do it at all.

I used the trick, of viewing a behavior negatively, to quit smoking 35 years ago. I had tried countless times before but, this trick got me through it. Whenever I felt the craving, I thought of the hassles, the expense, the clothes with burn holes, the social stigma, the stink, etc. And, finally, whenever I thought of smoking I repeated internally, " That's not how I behave now, it is part of the past".
