Your cells can no longer get energy, even with an abundance of fuel. People with type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and chronic kidney disease represent 25% of our population! According to research from Harvard, 93% of US adults have at least one abnormal risk factor, such as high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high blood lipids, visceral fat, inflammation, fatty liver, sleep apnea, or being overweight. Mitochondrial dysfunction is at the root of the problem. On average, people consume 31 teaspoons of sugar per day! Sugar isn't the only problem. Industrial food starches such as modified food starch, modified corn starch, and maltodextrin spike blood sugar more than sugar. The average American consumes 56 teaspoons of starch per day! Insulin removes sugar from your blood and stores it as belly fat, liver fat, or high triglycerides. During this process, the mitochondria are damaged. This could go on for years before blood sugar problems begin. A fasting insulin test would be the only way to detect the problem, but these are not routine. To reverse chronic disease, you must eliminate refined carbohydrates and eat less frequently! Here are the best foods for diabetes and heart health: •Salad: Arugula, ACV, extra virgin olive oil, pumpkin seeds, nutritional yeast, sunflower seeds, avocado •Protein/fat: Grass-fed, grass-finished hamburger with no bun •Dessert: L. Reuteri yogurt with sugar-free dark chocolate and/or cinnamon For your best health, practice the following healthy habits: •Follow a low-carb diet •Intermittent fasting •Get plenty of sunlight •Go on a post-meal walk •Avoid ultra-processed foods Dr. Eric Berg DC Bio: Dr. Berg, age 60, is a chiropractor who specializes in Healthy Ketosis & Intermittent Fasting. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2010. What finally helped me was lowering refined carbs, eating once or twice a day, and focusing on protein plus leafy greens just like you showed. Two things that surprised me: adding a magnesium-rich food (pumpkin seeds, spinach) reduced my night cramps, and brewing homemade yogurt with Lactobacillus reuteri improved my fasting glucose and sleep. Pairing meals with a slow 15-minute walk made my hunger fade between meals. I’m now medication-free with better energy. Stay consistent and give your body time to heal. You’ve got this.

Dr. Berg, you were the first person I turned to on YouTube when I was diagnosed with T2D in 2017. I felt hopeless with an A1C of 10 and fasting at 280 mg/dL. I had metabolic syndrome with low HDL, high LDL, and all the usual symptoms. The doctor recommended statins and a well-known T2D pill starting with an M. I followed your advice, and within weeks, my levels dropped to 80 mg/dL and A1C to 6.0. The doctor was amazed that I did it through diet and exercise alone, not meds. Since 2017, I’ve lost 50 lbs and reduced my waist size. It’s been 8 years, and I still eat this way with great results. You’re my favorite source of information, and I base my recipes on your advice. You’re amazing. Thank you so much, Dr. Berg!
