Vehicles aren’t designed, engineered or manufactured to last. They can absolutely be built better. We can build airplanes and space craft but some manufactures can’t or won’t even build a can opener or a flashlight that’ll effectively or efficiently work for more than two months. More technology doesn’t always equate to “Better”. Big business. Prior Electrical Engineer.

The main reason why machining debris is being left inside the engines is because in the past, a team of machinists were responsible for each individual step of the machining process and at the end of each step, each machinist cleaned and inspected his own work before he sent it to the next guy, for the next step. With today's technology, they are using CNC machining and the whole engine is being machined without cleaning the cutting debris between steps of machining. They rely too much on automation and have eliminated visual inspection between steps. The metal debris from one process is getting dragged into the next process with the same results as throwing a handful of metal filings into each stage of machining while it's still being done...

Relying on customers to do the testing is yet another example of ens***ification. There's a good book with that title. The book explains how and why this is happening.

I can't imagine how good a car would be, if Toyota started making an engine and transmission in 1985, was still producing it now, and spent the last 41 years refining and perfecting it.

It's probably because they put turbos in under power engines that's why they fail.
