In 2020 I went from Lexus to Mercedes. I bought a certified used 2019 E 300. The two best days of ownership were the day I bought the car, and the day I got rid of it and went back to Lexus. I jokingly say I had joint ownership of the car with my mechanic because it always seemed to be in the shop for something different. I was very surprised how much was not covered by the warranty. The fit and finish seemed to be great for the first year, but by 2021 it was a rattle festival inside the car. Lesson leaned on my part. Lexus from now on.
Mistake number one is taking your Mercedes to the dealership for service/routine maintenance. Find an independent mechanic, they are out there and less expensive than the dealer. Even with my Grand Cherokee I stay far, far away from the Jeep dealership for service.
That is why old-school Mercedes-Benz cars are still preferred among people.
Money pits are always cheep
When buying a used Mercedes, look for those that are built in Germany versus elsewhere. Difference of night day in quality.
2012-2016 E Class are very well built and reliable
German engineers do not care about long term maintenance issues. The cars are not designed for ease of service or maintenance. They are fantastic for leasing. Period. In addition, the manufacturers are not committed to low cost parts. Toyota is committed to making parts available 30 years after a model is discontinued.
They're cheap, 'cause they're CHEAP!!!
