I have also found that supplementing with magnesium is crucial (I take magnesium glycinate, sometimes together with a B6 supplement because in combination they help to lower uric acid levels and benefit kidney function). I've read that most potassium supplements are harmful, and I've found that it makes me unnaturally thirsty (not a good sign), even though the potassium supplement was manufactured by a prestigious company. So I always try to get my potassium from food, such as butternut squash and/or potatoes. In his books with dietary guidelines for the different blood types, the naturopath Dr. Peter d'Adamo listed potatoes as "Avoid" for Type Os and Type As. In the case of Type Os, potatoes contain lectins that deposit in their joints and causes arthritic inflammation. However, D'Adamo said that problems caused by harmful food lectins can be avoided if those foods are consumed together with polysaccharide sacrificial molecules such as those found in kelp (Fucus vesiculosis), seaweed (Laminaria), NAG (N-acetylglucosamine) and/or larch arabinogalactan. I've found that when I cook and eat burdock root together with potatoes, I do not get arthritis from the potatoes, so that probably means that burdock root also contains polysaccharide sacrificial molecules. Burdock root is strongly anti-inflammatory and a powerful blood cleanser and liver tonic. It has also been found to be of great benefit to people who have Parkinson's disease. It has a diuretic effect, and it's necessary to drink more water when you've consumed burdock root. It is often sold dry (as a herbal tea). Some people are allergic to burdock root.
