Thank God will smith wasn’t in it.
I remember picking my younger brother from school who got out early. He got in my car and said, "We have to go see this movie called The Matrix right now!" ONE of the best days of my life.
This breakdown has been done so many times since the film's release and you still crushed it! Bravo sir.
The Matrix is one of those movies that defined a generation. Changed the industry forever and is a part of culture to this day. Great work, as always, good sir.
I saw it in theaters...blew my fucking mind. 1999 was a crazy year.
From what I heard, Keanu injured his neck and THEN his fight style was created around that. The fact that he didn't have a lot of flexibility led to his very straight-forward fighting style (little-to-no dips, bobs or weaves, loads of straight power punches and kicks, very few feints, etc). A great example of an actor's limitations leading to an amazingly visceral and thematic fight style.

People born in the 2000's will never understand the impact this movie had. There was NOTHING like it at the time. Sure, a lot of the themes have been covered before, but that combined with revolutionary action scenes and that pano effect that had never been done before and the slow-mo, plus the deep introspective story line, there was just nothing at all like it. Nothing innovative like this is made today except for movies like Inception and what-not.
The matrix works partly because Keanu is such a blank slate and allows us to see ourselves in him. Will Smith would have been too Will Smith.
That chunk of pillar falling off after the lobby shootout is still one of my favorite parts of the film. You couldn't have timed it better!
