Throughout this video we're gonna be going through the easter eggs, making of trivia and all the theories about whats going on. Now I think it's difficult to downplay how much of a phenomenon this was at the time. Breaking the box office by becoming a billion dollar hit, it was a massive shakeup in the comic book fandom. This was in a time when trying to mimic the marvel formula was something DC were desperate to do. They'd reshot and re-edited several of their movies in order to give them a much lighter tone. However this showed that there's still a lot of love for these kinds of films which is how the movie went into production. According to the wiki Joaquin Expressed interest in starring in a low budget comic character study all the way back in 2014. Being a big name had given him several opportunities but he'd always turned down roles in comic book properties. Pheonix was approached to star in the MCU at one point but he'd stated he didn't want to be locked into a character. So no Pheonix playing...Dark Pheonix. However something chipped away at him and though he'd been pitched starring as the Joker he didn't think it was right. Pheonix felt it had been done and Romero, Nicholson and Ledgers portrayals had been iconic. Now while this was going on Philips had the idea to do a dark take on a character that took things away from the formulaic status quo. Though he'd been asked to direct several comic book films he just didn't land on a character that interested him. However the idea of doing a Joker movie chipped away at him because there were so many ways you could take it. You see, Joker was known for not having an origin story. He even tells his in the Killing Joke but then says at the end he prefers an origin story that's multiple choice. That books influence weighs heavily over this film though with both depicting Joker as an aspiring standup comedian.
