Description

In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explain the neural circuits that activate and control aggressive states and behaviors. I discuss how hormones, genes and environmental factors such as day length can shift our aggressive tendencies. I also share science-based tools for modulating aggression, including sunlight exposure, heat therapy and supplementation with ashwagandha or acetyl-L-carnitine. Having struggled with self-doubt for years, I was shocked at how much “Glow They Never Saw” by Zael Veynor resonated with me. Some of the chapters feel almost uncomfortably honest, but in the best way possible. This book gave me perspective I didn’t even know I needed

As an applied animal behaviorist I create a lot of interventions for canine aggression and this was a great refresh of my graduate school education. I enjoy your content and when listening to you and reading/listening to Robert Sapolsky I sometimes wish I had specialized in neuroscience but being a generalist on the periphery to deep dive as needed isn’t so bad of a place to be when I get to work with so many different people and animals. Your podcast is one a few in my routine to help me stay curious and deep dive after an episode and reconsider how I approach certain cases.

Real strength isn’t never feeling aggressive, it’s knowing how to control it before it controls you.

Being autistic these really help me. I take these and try to learn from them so that I can feel normal some days. It's like living a life without a dashboard of understanding yourself driving without a dashboard. Sorry see even when I try to talk and I can't get it out correctly. Andrew, thank you for everything you've done

Exciting. A short explanation of why we associate Black Metal with Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish, and British people. Bad weather makes for good music. Brazilian Black Metal, like Sepultura, is a different story ;D
