In this Huberman Lab Essentials episode, I explore major depression, including its underlying biology and discuss science-based approaches to alleviate symptoms and improve mood. I describe the wide-ranging symptoms of depression and explain how key neurotransmitters, hormones, stress, genetics and inflammation contribute to its development and persistence. something tough about managing depression is that you need to BELIEVE you can break through it, even just for one day. My therapist can believe in me, my family can believe in me, but if I don’t I will lose the fight every time

Love this!! I was diagnosed with major depression 15 years ago. After a couple years on meds, I decided meds were not for me. I did not want to be sedated through life. Your podcasts have helped tremendously as i have fine-tuned processes that work to keep me present and enjoying life. Cold plunging, exercise 6 days/week, meditation, prayer and breath work has helped to keep me present, engaged, calm, and content with the highs and lows in life. ❤ This stuff really works!

You may not realize it, but the light you bring into people’s lives through your kindness and wisdom is immeasurable. What you do feels like a true calling — guiding others toward healing and self-understanding. I’m deeply grateful.

I'm 65. Currently Battling out of a major depression \anxiety episode. Ive had numerous health issues throughout my life. Most of which are non factors. I've based my whole life on being athletic and worked as a plumber in large construction. At 55 both hips were shot. Developed sever esauphogitus and was told I had spinal stenosis. 2years I was dead just not dead. But hear I am. An older not necessarily wiser surviver. If you live with depression don't criticize yourself . just the opposite. You won't feel this but give yourself credit for making it through your day. Love to all my fellow misfits
